SWL Bond Issue

Why aren't we using the current middle school as the new elementary, instead of building a new one?

 

SWL believes the middle school building is in good shape.  But when doing the "Facilities Assessment" state officials with the OFCC said it would cost OVER 2 MIllion more to renovate the current middle schoool than it would be to build a new elemenatry building.

 

I'm not sure I like the location of the new elementary school.

 

SWL owns the land at Smoke Road and St. Rt. 40, and we will place both the new high school and the new elemenary on this property.  This land is next to our current high school and middle school; we will safely connect it to the existing high school.  A traffic study is planned to safely plan for appropriate exits and entrances to both schools.

 

Will we have all day Kindergarten and will my Kinderdergartener be at Kirkersville?

 

We will have the option to provide all day every day kindergarten.  It is important to mention that SWL hears this request frequently from our families, and the board of education strongly believes this is a vary valuable need for the children in our district.  Passing the Bond Issue will give us the space needed to provide this service, but as stated we will njeed the voters to approven an Opertating Levy to hire additional teachers for our children.   Kindergarten would then be at the neighborhood schools and the entire districts kindergarteners would not be at Kirkersville as they are today.
